We’ve got some seriously gorgeous wedding inspiration to share with you guys today.

Working with a whole gang of incredible Arizona wedding vendors, this inspiration shoot brings together that iconic Southwest backdrop, glamorous modern decor, pretty floral styling and elegant attire, for a timeless look that’s still really fresh and creative.

A palette of sweet coral and rich green runs throughout for a look that’s soft, yet clean, and plays up to the hazy desert garden backdrop.

Laden with innovative ideas, (we love the ceremony backdrop, and the idea of a ‘Gentleman’s Lounge’ for a masculine touch), everything from the floral design (amaryllis and orchids are such a contemporary combination) to the pretty paper goods (kraft paper and cut-outs is the perfect old/new blend) is a fusion of luxury and laid back.

Ever wondered how to give a rustic setting a modern feel? This garden wedding shows just how it’s done…

(Scroll down to be inspired and be sure to look out for Amy & Jordan Photography‘s notes on how it all came together.)

WILD ROMANCE; ELOPEMENT INSPIRATION FROM THE ENGLISH MOORS

We adore sharing weddings and inspiration shoots from around the world, vineyards in France, seaside towns in Italy, and sun-drenched ranches in California are often among our favourite settings for serious romance.

But it’s always special when we get to share a particularly beautiful backdrop a little closer to home, and we can’t think of anywhere more atmospheric for an elopement than the English moors. Rugged, dramatic, and impossibly romantic, Dartmoor in Devon is one landscape that has been inspiring artists, poets and writers for centuries.

And it was also the inspiration for international wedding photographers, Helen Abraham and Adrian Fisk, when they visited England last year and wanted to capture the romance of the region.

And who better to help them, than the utterly talented Sarah of Juno & Joy (one of our fave UK wedding blogs!), who took her cue from the backdrop with wild and whimsical styling.

Elegant and refined, but also stark and beautiful, this shoot captures all the epic, wild romance, Dartmoor is renowned for.

With gorgeous hair and make-up ideas for your own wedding day, beautiful blooms, and chic vintage-style attire and accessories, it’s packed with inspiration too.

Enough of our waxing though, we’ll pass you over to Devon local, and all-round creative lady, Sarah of Juno & Joy to tell us more about her concept behind this stunning shoot…

FROM THE STYLIST

Last summer I was approached by two international photographers – Helen Abraham (a destination wedding photographer) and Adrian Fisk (documentary photographer & film maker) who were about to spend some time on Dartmoor where Adrian grew up.

Knowing I was local, they asked if I’d collaborate on a styled shoot – showcasing the wild beauty of the moor and the talents of local wedding suppliers.

I created a narrative for the shoot using the wild elements of Dartmoor as the catalyst for my initial idea, inspired by this poem by Joseph Cottle:

What hills are those, deserted, brown and bare,

Whose mouldering crags the spoils of Time declare ?

Dartmoor ! thy stately presence I perceive,

Seen first at morn, and lingering last with eve ;

Thy Rugged pinnacles, unfolded clear,

Rising in solemn grandeur, wild and drear.

We follow a beautiful young women getting ready on her wedding – she is refined and wealthy, a fragile beauty and we follow her as she prepares herself, leaves her dwellings and walks through the elements and rugged moor to meet her betrothed in secret.

He looks as handsome and craggy as the moor itself. They journey together towards Hound Torr make private vows…as they travel and she relaxes, embracing her chosen fate.

Her demeanour alters to reflect their surroundings; looser, wilder and more natural. A Pagan hand-fasting ceremony at the top of the torr at sunset.

They enjoy a sweethearts picnic and head home to announce their marriage.

Aside from the photographers themselves every element of the shoot was supplied locally.

Home grown flowers by the awesome Laura Hingston, gowns created and supplied by designer Phoebe Stockman of Devon based bridal label Isabella Montague, hair accessories by her sister-in-law Eve of Bohamies and Jewellery by the divine Erin Cox of Exeter.

Claire Mathers at No:65 and Eve Ashby Make-Up provided their incredible talents and creativity, whilst the Two Bridges Hotel were our incredible hosts for the day – with the first part of the shoot taking place there before we headed off into the depths of the moors for sunset.

Special mention of our models too. Beautiful Lauren is actually an actress who I found via the alumni page of my former drama school in London.

She’s South West based and newly graduated and offered us such a different dynamic as she worked from a story-telling perspective. She was also up for almost everything…kicking off her shoes to climb up slimy boulders, just so we could get the perfect shot.

And lovely Ollie – well he’s studying hard at uni and works back at Two Bridges in his holidays…they loaned him and his dashing good looks to us for the day. What stars!

Isn’t it just enchanting? Such gorgeous ideas and stunning photographs. How fab are those head pieces by Bohemies, and the gown by Isabella Montagu, really captures the feel of the shoot too.

Would you consider eloping in England? We think Devon would be the most epic backdrop for it.

Thanks so much to Sarah of Juno & Joy, Helen Abraham and Adrian Fisk and the rest of this talented team of local, homegrown wedding vendors for sharing this special inspiration shoot with us.

Nautical Vibrant Yacht Club Harbour Wedding

Choosing a location which really means something to you can create a super personal wedding day.

WWW readers Ben and Lucy did just that and tied the knot on the 30th August 2014 in Poole. They hosted their wedding at two different Yacht clubs in the harbour, with a beautiful marquee for the celebrations and a boat trip complete with red arrow air display.

They used their location to inspire their décor which included the sweetest nautical details. An old sail was used to create the flag table numbers, there were Dolphin biscuits and boat place names.

I so love the multi colour blooms, pie and cheese cake and the stylish outfits.

Thanks goes to the amazing Emma Kenny for providing the imagery this morning.

THE PROPOSAL | For one of our earliest dates, Ben arranged a walking tour of one of my favourite areas in Hampstead Heath; we had such a great date here, we always remembered it as it was where we first held hands! So, for the proposal, Ben had arranged a date night back in Hampstead Heath and we went back to the same French restaurant that we had stumbled upon on that night. After a really lovely meal we walked towards a tiny observatory and were greeted by an old Astronomer, Captain Birdseye’s doppelganger, smoking a cigar. He ushered us in to a tiny circular room at the top of the heath with a step ladder and a telescope that was trained on to the moon. I climbed up the step ladder and while looking at the moon which was beautifully illuminated, Ben did an upwards lunge on one knee and proposed! After a few tears and a high pitched ‘yes’ chilled champagne was produced by ‘the captain.’

THE VISION | We wanted a relaxed, personal, unique and fun day which was on the sea and absolutely had to involve a boat. Neither of us is religious and so we wanted a blessing on the main day and then to have the legal ceremony a few days after with just immediate family at the Townhall in Islington, where we live. The blessing would have all the lovely things that a traditional wedding has except it would be super personal to us. A close friend of ours would be our ‘celebrant’ and lead the ceremony, with readings and music from close family and friends. I grew up opposite Parkstone Yacht Club which has stunning views of Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island and, as my mother is a member, we were allowed to have our ceremony there which allowed us to have a truly unique and never done before wedding. The ceremony was in a marquee with clear windows which meant you could see the harbour and all the boats at the yacht club from inside. A Greenslades ferry then took the wedding party around the harbour and in to the bay for a couple of hours for champagne and canapés with a steel drummer playing music aboard. The red arrows were on display for the Bournemouth Airshow and we had an amazing view of the whole show, we even had a heart formation flying past the boat!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Working in project management there’s nothing I enjoy more than a list and a plan! Ben and I went for the divide and conquer approach each sorting out various aspects of the day. Ben led more of the logistics of the day which were quite complex as the venue had not had a wedding there before as it’s an operating yacht club, moving 130 guests from one yacht club to another down thin pontoons, with a separate boat transporting the gang plank for everyone to get on and off the ferry. It was quite the challenge. I spent more time on the detailed things – decoration of 3 venues, colour schemes etc as well as the photographer and florist. We were both actively involved in all the planning and worked really well as a team. I found Pinterest really useful for the planning.

BUDGET |  Our initial aim was to spend £15-20k but ended up spending about £25k.

THE VENUE | The whole day was around Poole Harbour, which is where I grew up. The ceremony was at Parkstone Yacht Club, in a marquee overlooking the harbour. The canapé reception was on one of Greenslade’s ferries which took guests around Poole Harbour and in to Poole Bay for champagne and canapés. They found a brilliant spot to watch the Red Arrows air show display as part of the Bournemouth Airshow. The ferry picked up the wedding party from Parkstone Yacht club and after about 2 hours took everyone to the second venue – the Royal Motor Yacht Club which is on the Sandbanks peninsular, again with beautiful views across the harbour and the setting Sun. Both yacht clubs were amazingly helpful and accommodating in what we wanted for the day.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The designer was Sarah Janks, and the dress was Delaney. I borrowed mikimoto pearl and diamond earrings and bracelet form my family.

FINDING THE DRESS | I found this the most stressful part of the planning as I really couldn’t face spending a lot of money on a dress. I started off just wanting something from a high street shop, but then the more I started planning the day and looking at dresses I realised that I did want a wedding dress. (Although I didn’t want one that was too ‘weddingy’) I tried on about 30 dresses and felt as though none of them reflected the day we wanted, how I wanted to look/ feel on the day or flattered my figure. Then I went back to the very first shop I went to and tried on the first dress I liked and ended up getting that one. (and after a quick phone call to Ben about the price and an emergency 2nd opinion from my sister)

GROOM’S ATTIRE | We knew we wanted blue for the groom and ushers to reflect the coastal theme. Ben’s suit was from New and Lingwood.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We wanted one reading to be more light hearted and one to be more sentimental. The first reading was ‘Falling in love is like owning a dog’ by Taylor Mali and the second reading was ‘The Art of Marriage’ by Peterson.

I walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D, played on the steel drums. The steel drummer also played throughout the canapé reception on the ferry.

Our walking down the aisle song as husband and wife was ‘Everywhere’ by Fleetwood Mac.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Were comprised of my sister Tori who was the maid of honour, and 5 other wonderful friends; Clacko, Vic, Em, Jess and Mim.

THE FLOWERS | A good friend of ours has recently set up her own florist and did all of the wedding flowers. I could not have asked for more, the flowers were exactly what I was after and there were so many arrangements on the tables. I wanted bright, summery, cutting garden style flowers with corals and peaches to complement the bridesmaids’ dresses and the coastal theme of the day. Raffia was used to tie the bouquets together and it was used throughout the day; chair end flower arrangements along the aisle, around jam jar table arrangements and for the button holes.

THE CAKE | We knew we wanted something different from the traditional wedding cake, mainly because neither of us like fruit cake and because we both absolutely love cheese and pies and so the cheese and pork pie wedding cake idea was born. It would also double up as providing munchies for the guests later on in the evening. Our wedding present from my sister was the wedding cake and she amazingly made all the pork pies from scratch, including the pastry and designed the whole cake. There was a lot of product testing in the run up which was definitely an added bonus.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We really liked the more relaxed informal photo style which echoed the overall feeling we wanted to create for the day. As soon as I saw Emma Kenny’s website I knew that she could create the exact style that I wanted. Super friendly, very relaxing presence and professional throughout, I could not have asked for more. Even when our pre-wedding shoot, which was meant to be the day before the wedding, was called off as we ran out of time, Emma managed to create wonders in a matter of minutes.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | The ceremony venue: Signalling flags were hung up around the marquee, which added great splashes of colour to an otherwise very white venue. We hired white chairs and the chair ends were decorated with wooden hearts and flower arrangements. Various shades of blue paper lanterns were hung from the ceiling to break up the whiteness and create interest in the various heights they were hung. Dried rose petals bought from Marrakesh were spread along the aisle.

Signs – everything with a font on it was designed/ made by one of my bridesmaids. I wanted to keep the colours consistent through the day without being too “matchy” so royal blues and whites were chosen.

The reception venue: home made dolphin shaped biscuits, made by Ben’s mum, were hung off each chair for the favours – absolutely delicious and in line with the coastal theme. The table signs were made from an old sail cut in to triangles and super glued to dowel rods. The rods were then propped up with local sand in mini buckets. Photos of our friends and family were pegged around the venue. We had a fancy dress DIY booth, with a Polaroid camera and pirate/ sailor themed fancy dress and a guest book to stick the photos with a message. The place settings were paper boats and rafts made from vintage map wrapping paper, with the guest name written on the flag at the top. The ceiling was draped with various shades of blue ribbon to give it more colour and interest.

THE HONEYMOON | We had a ‘mini – moon’ for 4 days after the Islington wedding and spent it around Bordeaux. As we live in Islington the Euro Star, from Kings Cross, is about 20 minutes away so we hopped on that a few hours after the legal wedding and had a night in Paris to start. We then got a train to St Emilion where we stayed in a beautiful château for a couple of days, cycling around the stunning wine regions and sampling lots of it on our way. We then got on another train to Bordeaux where we had 2 nights and a day exploring the picturesque windy cobbled streets, sampling of course, the amazing cheese and wine.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | I think I’m supposed to say something about the day but the most memorable moment was after we had left the wedding venue at midnight and walked to our hotel. We had a glass of champagne on the terrace by the sea, the wind had died down and it was a lovely moment of calm taking in the brilliant day that just happened.

Fantasy Friday ~ An Outdoor Winter Ceremony on a Candlelit Mountain Top

1 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040824_low

Look how beautiful!!! Seriously, could ya’ bust? Totally reminds me of my fantasy bachelorette party post!! Now, imagine getting married on a mountain top, and then partying the night away at this beautiful venue. Right? Can I get a, “fuck yeah”?!! Seriously, talk about a memorable evening (or weekend!)! And, know what I absolutely love about Jessi (and Nick)? This girl had the balls to get married outside (as in host the ceremony outside!!) in March! WOW! That’s pretty impressive and unique! Although, when you see all the incredible deets, bridey, you won’t be too surprised.

Pepper, with Pepper Nix Photography, (my new FAVE and FAB photographer!) asked the bride quite a few questions about her wedding plans, overall experience, etc. My favorite? Scroll down and see Jessi’s advice for future brides…. Clearly, Jessi was a Bitchless Bride! Enjoy!

Why a Mountain Wedding? Nick and I love to ski. It is something we have been doing since we were very young. Additionally, when we first started dating it was something we did together several times a week. We also love, love, love the mountains, fresh air, and fantastic perspective their majesty brings!16 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040549_low 17 Cummings Mengis.006 18 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040606_low 19 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040619_low 20 Cummings Mengis.007 20 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040628_low 21 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040639_low 22 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040679_low 23 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040688_low 24 Cummings Mengis.008 25 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040753_low

I had all my bridesmaids pick their own dresses. I told them blue, above the knee, and no sleeves. They all picked out dresses that were incredibly flattering and somehow it worked out. Additionally they all wore printed black tights. I bought them coats and boots to keep them warm. One of my bridesmaids, Christina, made muffs (instead of flowers) and we all had a fantastic time making crass poses with them. (HA! Obviously, BB LOVES this!)25 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040763_low

Any advice you have for future brides? Take a deep breath when you are up front and look at everyone who is supporting you. Two, don’t get so caught up in the details that you forget what you are doing, joining two people together. Three, surround yourself with people you love…don’t be obligated to invite people or put people in your bridal party who you don’t want there. Four, hire someone to do things the day of…it was the best decision we made. Five, make a weekend of it. We did a pub crawl on Friday night and it was so fun. We had many activities and stayed together, so it felt like a vacation!26 Cummings Mengis.009 26 Cummings Mengis.010 26 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040774_low 27 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040784_low 28 Cummings Mengis.011 28 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040794_low 28 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040818_low

We wanted something less traditional, so we opted for a brown cake with swirls. Honestly, Nick and I were hanging out with my aunt and she asked us a couple questions about what we liked and what we absolutely didn’t want. In the end we told he she had complete creative control and the cake was deish! So many people came up to us and told us it was the best cake they had ever had, maybe it was because there was no fondant! 29 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040822_low 29 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040858_low 30 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040856_low 31 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040925_low 32 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040916_low

Hated? One of my good friends worked with a very prestigious designer in NY, and needless to say she has a lot of experience lacing up gown. So naturally she laced me up. Everything was fine until we started dancing…I almost passed out because it was so tight. Amy, bridesmaid, loosened it on the dance floor, while we were dancing, as if nothing had happened. 33 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12040970_low 34 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12041081_low 35 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12041006_low 36 Cummings Mengis.014 37 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12041013_low 38 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12041014_low 39 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12041035_low 40 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12041147_low 40 Cummings_Mengis_Pepper_Nix_Photography_12041173_low

Summer Glamour: An Unmissable Rose Gold Wedding

Today’s Real Wedding is all about the location and all about the dress. Gorgeous bride Joan tied the knot to groom Paul in a lavish, yet super relaxed, Spanish destination wedding in the dream dress, and the dream rose gold Louboutins. The details are stunning, the style impeccable but most importantly the sun shone down on Joan, Paul and their guests for the entire day and they had one whale of a time celebrating this  Get ready for just a hint of envy and some serious temptation to start planning your very own wedding abroad in the sun…

Joan and Paul met in an Irish bar whilst both living and working in Lyon, France. Joan first spotted Paul, approached him and began to chat in her very best French. Little did she know Paul was an Irishman, in fact he hails from Kerry just a short distance from Joan’s family home in Cork.5 6 7 8 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-6

Joan and Paul immediately hit it off and dated for a year in France before deciding to move back home to Ireland –  Joan to Sligo and Paul back to his home in Kerry. Despite the distance Paul and Joan managed to meet up every weekend, and another year later they finally moved in together in Cork.9 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-7 10 11 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-3 12 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-9 13 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-11 14 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-12 15 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-14 16 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-16 17 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-17 18 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-19 19 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-20

For their proposal Joan and Paul were on the move again, this time to London. Joan was in town for work, but unbeknownst to her Paul wasn’t far behind with an epic surprise planned. Liasing with Joan’s client, whom she was due to meet in London, as well as her hotel’s staff, Paul planned a surprise proposal in Joan’s hotel room complete with champagne and her dream engagement ring.20 En-Route-Photography-blush-pink-barcelona-wedding-100-22 21

DESTINATION ELOPEMENT INSPIRATION FROM ST. LUCIA

We’re so excited today because we’re getting to share the work of one of our very favourite wedding bloggers, along with the talents of a creative crack team of vendors too.

Burnett’s Boards has been a wedding blog that’s inspired us from the very beginning here at Bridal Musings, and Sara, the lady behind it, is a visionary when it comes to unique ideas for beautiful weddings.

So, when she told us she’d been working on a destination elopement shoot at stunning resort, The Landings, St Lucia, with the amazing Mikkel Paige Photography, we simply couldn’t wait to see it.

With a unique wedding dress, gorgeous locally-sourced blooms, pretty paper goods, and perhaps the most romantic setting in St. Lucia, ( oh, and an epic sail boat backdrop!) we can’t help but be tempted by this shoot, to jet off to the Caribbean for a destination elopement.

Scroll down to see if Sara of Burnett’s Boards can lure you too, and read her insights into the special details that brought this inspired elopement to life.

FROM THE STYLIST

St. Lucia is easily THE most sought-after destination wedding location in the entire Caribbean and it’s clear why!

Not only is it completely stunning with perfect beaches, weather, and everything else you’d want in the Caribbean, but also convenient with direct flights from London and several major cities in the US and Canada.

For this romantic, St. Lucia elopement wedding inspiration shoot I wanted to show that destination, beach weddings need not be the typical, package deals you see a lot of – The Landings, St Luciacan craft your wedding to be exactly as you’ve always envisioned it.

Mikkel Paige of Mikkel Paige Photography flew in from Raleigh to photograph it all and help with the styling of it – she’s just too fabulous and has shot in St. Lucia before.

Plus, she isn’t afraid to take her camera in the water to get ‘the shot!’

THE SEQUINS & THE STATIONERY

The stunning sequin-bottomed wedding dress from Truvelle was just too perfect for a destination wedding (and big bonus – it packs well! I didn’t have to steam it or anything once I got there).

The sequin color also dictated the palette for the wedding invitations from Karla of Written Word Calligraphy.

She used The Landings’ architecture as inspiration for the RSVP card, which features pillars seen around the property and the gorgeous view off of the oceanfront villa suites.

A Saint Lucian seal was also used and a hand drawn map of the hotel’s location along Rodney Bay.

THE FLOWERS & THE FINISHING TOUCHES

The Landings coordinated the florist who crafted a perfectly suited bouquet and centerpiece for a beach wedding, one that mimicked the colors of a St. Lucian sunset.

The Landings also coordinated the hair and makeup via their luxury Soleil Spa and they were absolutely amazing. We went with a soft, naturally beautiful look for makeup and for hair – a bun so our bride could still look chic and elegant with tropical breezes on the beach.

Jewelry was provided Diamonds International – St Lucia and we used jaw-dropping pieces from their Crown of Light Collection.

THE SAIL BOAT

The sail was handmade and features lines from St. Lucian author Derek Walcott’s Nobel Prize winning epic poem Omeros.

The lines speak to the beauty of the island and I envisioned the boat as a ceremony backdrop, the sail showcasing vows.

The prow of the boat is covered in bougainvillea, all of which was available on the property and gorgeously local and tropical.

Super cute side story regarding the boat: we shot this in January and in February the lovely staff members at The Landings sent me pictures of the boat in action, they gave couples romantic rides in the marina for Valentine’s Day!
